The Head Flip is a pivot. It’s a simple change of the streamer’s head angle, from down and across to up and across, or from upstream to downstream. This pivot doesn’t necessarily move the fly out of its area, but the motion might seem pretty dramatic to a trout. The Head Flip shows trout an opportunity for an easy meal, and it might signal a moment of vulnerability. It’s one of our favorites animations to a streamer.

Dom, Austin:
All good stuff tonight, as usual. However, can you use a head-flip tactic with a tandem streamer rig? Any hot-points to be aware of? Weighted vs. unweighted streamers…..(Sorry, I ended the sentence with a preposition.)
Have either of you had any success with using it this way?
Rich
Thanks for your question. Nah, like we said in the podcast, you can do the Head Flip with any fly and any weight. Yes, you can also do it with two streamers. I like to keep the second streamers much smaller than the parent streamer. I want to be most in contact and control of the parent fly, and the secondary fly is along for the ride. That said, with two streamers, you will always be taking away some of that direct control of the parent streamer. It’s kinda like the secondary streamers softens the action, it absorbs some of the motion, regardless of whether you rig is as a tag or a trailer.
