Fishing Report — Brush Piles and Droppers

At the top of the flat, my time is up, and I chuckle at the absurdity of two things while breaking down my rod: First, tight line dry-dropper drop-shot as a thing. And second, why had I never considered it before?

PODCAST: (VIDEO & AUDIO) Burnout (S19, Ep2)

Burnout is involuntary. It creeps up and surprises people, but I don’t think it has to. Fishing gets old because it becomes average, because some of the mystery or exploration is gone — maybe it becomes predictable. But all of that can be changed with a few intentional decisions, too.

Where’s My Fly?

Understanding the fly’s position — where it is and where it’s going — is the key challenge in fly fishing. And aside from basic casting skills, an awareness of the fly in the current is the most essential skill.

EVENT: The Troutbitten Film Festival

Troutbitten is hosting a Film Festival at New Trail Brewing Company in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and we want you to be there. We’ll gather to share fishing stories, a few beers and good times. The event will feature door prizes with gear from many of the best companies in the fly fishing world, and we’ll have awards for some of the selected films.

The Troutbitten Film Festival features genuine experiences. It’s about the woods and the water. It’s about wild places. It’s about the friendships and stories we all collect from a life on the water. It’s not about exotic locations. It’s not a big fish contest or a big camera contest. If you’re resourceful, you can create something beautiful and endearing for the Troutbitten Film Festival with your iPhone.

(VIDEO) Sighter Angles While Tight Line and Euro Nymphing

At what angle should we set the sighter? Should it be vertical? Should it be at a 45? Should it be flatter? And should it stay the same throughout the drift or should it change? While tight line or euro nymphing, you can get excellent dead drifts with any sighter angle if you’re attentive to the details and understand the strengths of all angles. There is no better leading angle. It’s a choice based on preference, skill, objectives and river conditions.

Troutbitten Fly Box — The Blue Collar Worker (with VIDEO)

Show up on time, do your job and have a little fun while you’re at it. Then go home and do it all over again tomorrow. That’s a blue collar worker. It’s a Pheasant Tail with a CDC collar. It has a little disco for the rib and a hot spot collar. It’s simple, reliable and effective . . .

Drifting Light Nymphs

Never forget that it’s all about contact — not all the time, and not so much that you’re moving the nymphs. Perfect tracking is just barely out of contact. And throwing a pile of slack into the water only works when you get lucky.
