Troutbitten On the Orvis Fly Fishing Podcast — Talking About the Mono Rig

by | Mar 24, 2023 | 3 comments

It was an honor to once again be a guest with Tom Rosenbauer on the Orvis Fly Fishing Podcast. Way back in 2019, Tom and I talked about streamers. This time, Tom asked for a breakdown on the Mono Rig.

It was a fun conversation. Tom and I went deep into the long leaders tactics. We talked about the history, expectations, limitations and misunderstandings regarding the Mono Rig.

** Note ** One correction: I misspoke when I said that Humphreys didn’t have access to split shot. I meant to say he didn’t have access to tungsten beads while writing his book, Trout Tactics.

You can find the podcast on all of your podcast players, or follow THIS LINK and listen directly.

I hope you enjoy it.

Fish hard, friends.

Enjoy the day.

PODCAST: Critical Nymphing Concepts #6 — Line On the Water — S10, Ep6

This episode is about tension and slack. It’s about how we manage fly lines and leaders on the water while nymphing. My friend, Austin Dando, joins me to walk through the tight line advantage of keeping line off the water and what happens when we give that up. Fishing greater distances often requires laying line on the water, and how we manage that line, how we plan for it, makes all the difference between a great drift and a poor one . . .

  2. Not for nothing but the troutbitten guys joked about the 4k sound set-up however the difference in sound quality from troutbitten podcast to the Orvis is pretty remarkable. Whoever is doing your sound is doing an awesome job. Mad props.
