I was pleased to be one of Spencer Durrant‘s first guests on his new Unhooked podcast. We talked back in late March, and the conversation is now published and live. (Links are at the end of this article.)
Spencer Durrant is a long time guide and author in the fly fishing industry. I’ve read much of his work through the years, so I happily agreed to the discussion.
It’s a casual conversation of about an hour. We talk about some of the differences between our fishing regions, how and why trout are more selective in certain places, and finding the balance between the pursuit of knowledge vs a pure enjoyment on the river.

Its interesting how upset the WEstern guides get when they experience fishing around other people. That is totally a representative of the population in their areas, and the cause of so many of our crowded streams. You didn’t even get into the water rights issues which affect Easter waters more than in the West. You have to get him fishing in your waters and have the two of you do a follow up show. Of course, you should fish his waters with him also.
True
